Fashion Trends

Today's outfit is a mix of some of my favorite trends right now. Denim on top, high-low hemlines and cross-body bags-- I can't get enough of these. Trends are funny, some things come and go with each season and some stick around for years. Certain things I'm glad to see go: platform sneakers, chain wallets, patented leather, furry boots--eek! But some trends: skinny jeans, chambray shirts, colored denim and maxi dresses make an appearance and then stick around for a few years. Hopefully these trends stick around forever, or at least a long while.

Fancy Schmancy

I have a serious love hate relationship with getting dressed up. Half of me loves dressing up for special occasions-- looking all fancy-schmancy; but the other half of me is just a lazy-bum who loves to be comfortable. Plus dressing formally generally means sticking out like a sore thumb here in the sunshine state, where everyone always looks like they're on a beach vacation. This split-style-personality causes me to search for pieces that I can wear to formal occasions and double as casual wear.

I saw this dress on the Free People website and fell in love, the lace is so feminine and romantic. At first glance I would immediately think to pair it will some stilettos for a great date night look; but the more practical side of me decided to throw on a denim jacket and sandals. Styling this dress more casually made it perfect for Saturday afternoon lunch and shopping.

Every girl needs a little black dress-- or ten. I can never have enough simple black dresses. They are so versatile and nothing makes a girl feel more sophisticated than slipping one on.

Floral Kimono

I'm definitely loving the kimono trend right now. I walked into Forever21 a few weeks ago just to browse, and I couldn't leave without this high-low kimono. Even though it feels like summer will never end here in Florida, my mind is already in fall fashion mode. I've been on the hunt for transition pieces that I can wear now and easily layer whenever the cooler weather decides to arrive. This kimono is perfect to wear over light dresses or shorts right now, later I can layer it over jeans and boots.

Cute or Crazy

I'm not sure if I think this outfit looks cute or kind of crazy. I would have never thought to put this combo together; I happened to be wearing the top when I bought this jacket. I tried it on in the store with no intention of wearing these together, but I looked in the mirror and I actually really liked it. This could easily be one of those outfits that I look back in a few months and say-- what was I thinking?! But I'm glad I took a little pattern-mixing leap of faith because I really love this look right now. Isn't that what style is all about? Loving what you're wearing right now, even if it might look a little crazy.

Winter to Summer

If I had to choose one type of clothing to wear forever it would definitely be dresses. Not just because I'm a serious girly-girl-- but because they are so versatile and easy to wear. My favorite part about a dress like this one is, it's cool and comfortable for warm weather; but throw on some tights, boots and a sweater and it doubles as an easy outfit for chilly weather as well. I wore this same dress back in February, here.

No Cats Allowed

I hardly ever wear this dress because it's so delicate, I'm deathly afraid that something will happen to it. But I decided  to wear it to celebrate my little sister's birthday over the weekend. She's the baby of the family and I can't believe she's already thirteen!-- this makes me feel old. 

I got myself ready, took this lovely dress out of my closet and put it on. As I was running out the door I noticed a hole and a huge snag at the bottom-- apparently, I don't even need to wear my garments to ruin them. I'm assuming my cat got into the closet and decided this dress would be a nice place to stick her claw into. Luckily, I was able to pull the thread a little so it's not very noticeable. Needless to say-- my cat is no longer allowed in my closet.

Another Summer Dress

I seriously can't get enough dresses during the summer. I've said it a million times and I'll probably say it a million more, dresses are easy to just throw on and go, plus they're so cool and comfortable. This one was another find from Boston; Urban Outfitters was having an insane-crazy sale while I was there. I love the pattern and colors on this dress, it will make a great transition piece for fall.
